As an effort to find the latest research ideas in the field of mathematics and mathematics education during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Mathematics UNP held the activity & nbsp; The 4th International Conference on Mathematics and Mathematics Education (ICM2E) on 5 and 6 September 2020. This conference is the first virtual international seminar held by the Mathematics Department of UNP after three years previously the activities were held face-to-face. Dr. Elita Zusti Jamaan, MA, head of the ICM2E committee stated that the implementation of the event went smoothly with all committee sections carrying out their duties with full responsibility.

The conference was opened by the Rector of Padang State University represented by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Refnaldi, M. Litt. In his remarks, he expressed his hope that mathematics could contribute to helping teachers, students and parents overcome problems in learning mathematics during the pandemic. In line with the expectations of the university, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dr. Yulkifli, M.Si, also hopes that this seminar can contribute to the progress and development of mathematics in the era of revolution 4.0. even though it is now in a pandemic state of covid-19.

This conference was attended by 58 presenters and 80 participants with three main speakers (keynote speakers) from abroad and one from Indonesia. The theme of the conference for this year is “Integrating Innovative Research in Mathematics and Mathematics Education to Led Sustainable Development.” The activity is divided into two sessions, namely plenary session on 5th September 2020 and parallel session on 6th September 2020.

In the plenary session, four main speakers are displayed. Starting by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Faizal Nizam Lee Abdullah from Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia with the title of the paper “Qualitative Research in Mathematical Communication” i. Furthermore Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzan, M.Pd., M.Sc. from Padang State University delivered a paper entitled “ Fostering Research in Ethnomathematics &rdquo ;. The next main speaker, Prof. Dr. Benjamin Rott, from the University of Cologne, Germany with the paper title “Models of Problem Solving Process”. The conference on the first day was closed with Prof. Dr. Gabriel J, Lord,   from Radboud University, Netherlands who delivered a paper entitled “ A Model for the Stochasticallly Forced Vorticity Equation ”.
